ABOUT LAURYN WACHS

Videographer, designer, photographer, storyteller.

That last note is the most important - you won’t go far unless you have a good story to tell.

I grew up in New England, but traveled to visit family frequently in Colorado. When I was a kid, I’d beg my grandfather to take me up to Rocky Mountain National Park. Between the spectacular views, glimpses of elk through the trees (or in the bustling downtown of Estes Park), the mild butterscotch smell of the ponderosa pine… I was hooked. I did all the exercises in the little workbook the National Park Service gives you so I could earn the title of “Junior Ranger” and could point to my shiny badge on my chest to tell off tourists for feeding yellow-bellied marmots M&M’s.

Little did I know that ethic would shape my life for years to come. I love to work for or partner with an organization/company with a mission that looks at a sustainable future.

Most recently, I worked for The Nature Conservancy in Colorado where I created videos around conservation successes, designed reports and proposals for major donors, photographed conservation work in action, assisted with events large and small on the multimedia side, and even organized the occasional happy hour. I loved translating science for the casual viewer.

Previously I helped run The Cloud Foundation, a nonprofit specializing in advocacy for wild horses and burros on public lands. In addition, I worked for Taurus Productions, an Emmy Award-winning natural history film production company.

When I'm not working, you'll most likely find me out on the range. That little kid who walked up to ponderosas to smell them hasn’t left me. Nothing refreshes me like a weekend of hiking, camping, and general wandering. If I'm not doing that, I'm out taking photos of wild horses.
